San Francisco is rich in services and opportunities of all kinds, especially for older adults. From the very beginning, we decided that we didn’t want to reinvent the wheel or simply be one more thing in the mix of rich offerings that already exists. To that end, we began to explore partnerships with existing agencies and organizations that provide services and opportunities that benefit our members in any number of ways.

We began to talk with people and potential partners, including hospitals, transportation providers, intergenerational opportunities for employment and participation, non-profits concentrating on aging and helping people remain independent, educational, cultural, lifelong learning organizations, and many more. The conversations were about how we can help each other – what's in it for the prospective partner and what is in it for SFV? The product of these discussions is expressed in Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), a Partnership, or simply a closer relationship or friendship built on trust.

We now have four Partners and many more conversations in progress. Our current Partners are:

The Institute on Aging, SilverRide, Enterprise for High School Students, and The Community Learning Center at St. James.

A brief description of each of our Partners follows.

Institute on Aging (IOA) is a community-based, not-for-profit organization that touches the lives of thousands of seniors in San Francisco, Marin, and the Peninsula each year. For over 24 years, IOA's mission has been to enhance the quality of life for adults as they age by enabling them to maintain their health, well-being, independence, and participation in the community. We fulfill this mission for a diverse community by developing and providing innovative programs in health, social service, creative arts, spiritual support, financial planning, education, and research.
SilverRide is the premier provider of transportation and accompaniment for older adults in the Bay Area. It has a fleet of PT Cruisers, easy to get in and out of, with well trained drivers who will arrive at your door and, if needed, accompany you on your errands or appointments. SilverRide also offers special outings called Signature Events. They arrange everything and make sure that everyone is well taken care of and has a good time. SilverRide happily helps clients of all conditions travel and engage with each other and their community. Special discounts are given to SFV members.
The non-profit Community Learning Center (CLC) at St. James Episcopal Church in San Francisco was founded in 2004 in order to provide educational and community building programs to nuture the bodies, minds and spirits of children, youth, adults and seniors in the Richmond District and beyond.

In addition to programs for children and youth that respond to the needs of our surrounding community, the CLC helps many organizations by sharing our space at the Center throughout the year. San Francisco Village began as a steering committee of the CLC and used space at St. James for meetings and programs until SFV became a separate non-profit in 2007.
Enterprise for High School Students began in 1969 as a totally volunteer-driven organization, helping a handful of students find summer jobs. Today, Enterprise serves over 1,500 San Francisco youth residing in every zip code in San Francisco, ages 14-18, who attend public and independent high schools. EHSS operates under a simple, yet vital mission: “to engage and empower San Francisco Bay Area youth to discover career opportunities and cultivate their individual interests through training, guidance and employment experiences in a diverse and supportive learning environment.”

EHSS has screened and trained a large group of high school students to work with older adults in varieties of ways, including gardening, catering, cleaning, shopping, dog walking, etc. As a SFV member, call Marcia at 415-392-7600 x311 to post your job. Applicants will call you back. You explain what you want done, how and when, and how much you will pay. SFV has had great success with EHSS students helping at parties and events – everyone benefits.

CitiScape Property Management Group is a full-service, CACM certified, property management company offering proactive and professional management services in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area. CitiScape currently manages a portfolio representing over 5,500 residential homeowner's associations (HOAs) and live/work condominium homes and apartments, as well as retail and commercial properties totaling more than 500,000 sq ft., with asset management of more than 2.8 billion dollars.

In November 2009, CitiScape and San Francisco Village created a new program for older adults living in the San Francisco apartment and condominium units managed by CitiScape. The development of the program was prompted by the growing needs of the 900+ older people living in buildings managed by CitiScape. This first-of-its-kind partnership provides social activities to prevent isolation and access to services that enable independent living, including delivered meals, transportation to medical appointments, routine checks on personal welfare, and assistance for many other services—all with a single phone call.
The Transition Network (TTN) is a national network of resources and support for women over 50 as they explore and experience transitions in their professional and personal lives. The San Francisco Bay Area Chapter is one of thirteen around the country, and includes members in San Francisco, as well as the east, south and north bays. TTN offers women the opportunity to: 1) Meet other interesting, supportive women for networking and friendship. 2) Participate in small peer groups, to discuss life changes and develop special interests. 3) Attend program meetings with speakers on such topics as health and aging, sex after fifty, and finding meaningful work or other activity. 4) Join in fun social events, like film screenings and lunch in North Beach. 5) Connect with the Caring Community (east bay only, at this time) in which TTN members provide services to support each other through medical and other life challenges.
