From the Desk of the Execuitve Director

Dear Friends,
Last week some I spent three days with some inspiring people who are starting villages all around the country. There are over 60 villages now in operation and another 120 or so in formation. I hope you are as proud as I am of being part of an amazing movement. San Francisco Village has a very good reputation in the village movement as witnessed by our presence at the conference. SFV Board President, Gayle Geary, was a speaker and a panelist throughout the three day conference, and SF Village was cited repeatedly as a model to which many other villges aspire. Both Keyatta and I attended workshops as did Mary Moore Gaines and Eva Auchincloss. Our attendance will make our Village even better! Our own Dr. Walter Bortz was the keynote speaker and received a standing ovation. It was a very proud moment for SF Village.
Warmly,
Janis

Volunteer of the Month: Sarah Goldman

Sarah Goldman
By Mary Moore Gaines
Sarah is an active, interested and creative member of San Francisco Village. She has a Master of Social Work (MSW), so it is not surprising that Sarah is very much into helping people. Shortly after Sarah became a member, she realized that her landlady, an elderly and independent woman who was living alone, needed help with daily chores. Sarah knew that her neighbor wouldn’t accept an outright offer of help. So, with the help of her nephew and SFV, we devised a plan. The nephew came to the door one Saturday morning with an experienced home help representative. He announced quietly that the woman had come to clean house and help with cooking. His aunt was startled but allowed the woman in. They became fast friends and the mission was accomplished.
