At the close of the year, San Francisco Village reaches out to our community to ask for help to continue empowering older adults to live their fullest lives in the places they call home. This fundraising drive provides direct support to our operating budget. We strive to expand the many ways that we connect our members to the community, programming and expertise they need to remain independent, engaged and resilient as they age. Donate a Vehicle
Have a car taking up space? Running or not, please consider donating your vehicle on our behalf. Click here to access our vehicle donation form , or call 866-392-4483. We partner with Donate For Charity to handle all the details!
Donate for Charity Inc. makes it easy to donate your car, boat, RV, airplane, or property across the United States. They provide fast, free pickup of your vehicle with no cost to you and you will receive the maximum tax deduction for your donation.
As a San Francisco Village partner, when you donate your vehicle through Donate for Charity, 70% of the value of your donation goes toward supporting our mission and helping older San Franciscans continue living independently in the places they call home.
Employee Matching Gifts
Did you know that many companies offer a matching gift program to encourage giving and volunteering among their employees? Some companies even match gifts for spouses, retirees, and part-time employees. We have found an easy way to increase the impact of your donation through corporate matching gifts. Smart Giving With an IRA
Have you considered making a tax-saving contribution to San Francisco Village as part of your year-end giving plan? Perhaps you’d like to honor a friend or family member as a holiday gift. There’s a smart and easy way to do it! If you are age 73 or older, you can direct your IRA custodian (such as Schwab, Vanguard, Fidelity and others) to transfer part or all of your required minimum distribution to San Francisco Village.
You do not need to itemize federal income taxes to make one of these gifts and save on your taxes — and you can donate up to $100,000 to your favorite charities from your traditional (non-Roth) IRA(s), tax free, each year. These tax-saving gifts are easy! Simply instruct your IRA administrator to direct your gift to San Francisco Village or enter this information on the form preferred by your IRA administrator.
Stock Donation
Stock gifts are impactful and mutually beneficial — San Francisco Village receives the full value of the stock, while you avoid paying capital gains tax. This fast and simple process can be done through an electronic transfer, or certificates can be donated through the mail. Your gift helps us continue to fight isolation and loneliness through the power of intergenerational community and mutual support. Community Thrift Donations
Community Thrift Store accepts donations on behalf of San Francisco Village, sells the items, and then shares the proceeds with us. Many thanks to all of you whose closets have been cleaned out and who have named SFV the beneficiary. Last year for example, we received $2000 in donations because of this partnership. Please keep us in mind when you drop your used and well-loved items off at Community Thrift Store, 623 Valencia St. Let them know our reference number for donations is 122.
Gus’s Market Community Program
If you are a shopper at Gus’s Market you can help San Francisco Village raise funds by enrolling in the Gus’s Community Card program. When enrolled, Gus’s will contribute 6% of your purchases to the non-profit of your choice! It is easy and FREE to enroll. Stop at any Gus’s Market register and fill out a simple form with San Francisco Village’s name and group ID: 500451317. When you are checking out, simply have the store associate scan your Community Card or provide your account phone number and the contributions are automatic!

Sara joined the team in 2018. She brings with her 20 years of experience in community development, philanthropy, and organizational management. She completed her bachelors at George Washington University and her masters at UC Berkeley. Her career focus has been on evaluating how community groups run from year-to-year and strengthening daily processes to increase institutional success. Sara loves travel and global development issues, particularly a non-profit she founded 10 years ago focusing on students’ access to school in Cambodia. Sara is raising her family here in San Francisco.
Maya is a public relations and communications professional with more than a decade of experience; her expertise includes consumer products and technology PR, as well as event management and content development. She has been a pro-bono consultant with the Taproot Foundation since 2012, and has participated in three service grants to date. Maya attended the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and graduated with a BA in mass communications and a minor in political science.
