Events & Programs
Current Calendar of Events
Our vibrant programming is the gateway through which members gain empowering information, share experiences, and develop a deep sense of belonging to the community. At a time when older adults may find their social networks shrinking, San Francisco Village programs offer opportunities to expand. Programs are continually evolving, reflecting the interests and requests of our dynamic membership, and generally fall into one of six categories: Healthy Aging, Express Yourself, Member-Led, Connections Across Generations, Navigating Today’s World, and Exploring San Francisco. San Francisco Village hosts 30-35 program events per month. Take a look at our calendar and get involved!
If you are a member, you can select an event and at the bottom of the pop up, click on “Learn More” to sign up. You can also call (415) 387 – 1375 or email email@example.com to send in your RSVPs.
If you are not yet a member, please visit the Join section of our website! While our programs are generally for members of San Francisco Village, we’d love to have you attend one event as a guest.
Neighborhood Circles are smaller, hyper-local groups that enable members to develop relationships closer to home. Currently there are 12 Neighborhood Circles led by either members or non-member volunteers and supported by our member and volunteer coordinator, Jill Ellefsen. If you are interested in learning more about Neighborhood Circles and/or starting one in your area, let us know! Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or 415-387-1375 x 2.

Sometimes we need a little help after a hospitalization: someone to check in with us, drive us to a doctor’s appointment or pick up groceries. Knowing we’re connected to a caring community can speed our recovery. The SFV Wellness Program supports you in the journey from leaving the hospital to achieving wellness at home, in harmony with your goals and preferences. This program can help you manage your health, prepare for your doctor’s visit, get the community services you need and more. Participation is completely voluntary. If you start the program and are not satisfied, you may withdraw at any time. This program is available to all current members of SFV and through our partnership with Sutter Health/CPMC Mission Bernal Campus; it’s also available to ACE Unit patients free of charge for 90 days. If a patient chooses to participate, once they go home, SFV volunteers will be available to:
- Check in by phone or friendly visit
- Help with grocery shopping, laundry and simple household tasks
- Provide transportation to a doctor’s appointment
Additionally, our Wellness Program Coordinator is available to connect the participant with online services that make your life simpler and make referrals to local community resources. As a participant in this program, you are invited to any of the more than 30 activities that take place each month. From health and wellness lectures to creative writing classes; from tai chi to film and discussion groups, and so much more. Scroll down to the next section to see our online calendar of events. For more information, contact our Wellness Program Coordinator, Jessica Da Silva, at email@example.com or 415-387-1375 x 6.
Four annual events are the highlight of our year. They bring community members of all ages and backgrounds together and help us celebrate those significant people who make San Francisco Village possible.
Transforming Lives and Community Luncheon (May)
The Transforming Lives and Community Luncheon is a celebration of aging and our annual signature fundraising event hosted annually at the Julia Morgan Ballroom. The hallmark of the luncheon is an award to one or more persons in their 70s or older who have made a profound impact on the lives of San Franciscans and beyond, and who exemplify what it means to age with continued meaning and purpose. Recipients may include politicians, civic leaders, artists, scientists, philanthropists and others who continue to transform lives and community into their older years. Learn more about past Luncheons here!
Volunteer Appreciation Party (October)
San Francisco Village invites all of our volunteers and members to our annual fall party (usually known as the Volunteer Appreciation Party). Join us in celebrating abundance — we’ll share stories of connection and appreciation in our generous community with plenty of treats and drinks!
Holiday Party (December)
SFV celebrates an evening of food, wine, and merrymaking to celebrate the holidays! In the spirit of the season, we come together as a community and share some laughter and gratitude with fellow Village members and volunteers. So many of our fondest holiday memories involve food, and particularly sharing food with friends and family.
State of the Village (February)
The State of the Village meeting is our version of an Annual Shareholders Meeting, marking each anniversary. It’s a great opportunity to feel connected to San Francisco Village, meet the staff, get better acquainted with one another, and learn about our goals for the upcoming year. A vendor fair is also a staple of this event so that SFV members can learn about leading community organizations and see what resources are available to help older adults continue living independently.
